  GG is based on a series of books written by Cecily von Ziegaser.
  Josh has just recreated it into a TV show…..I havent yet seen it in Australia but it looks okay. Nothing can beat The OC!
  The resemblance between the characters is just scary, especially between Willa Holland and the blonde chick…..

  The Oc cast members’ faces have alot more character than those on that other show!
  their faces are so forgettable!
  Look at that girl, Blake Lively whatever’s face. Its sooo typical!
  And look at Mischa’s face, Its very distinct and her facial features are unique and strong so as the other cast members. Ryan’s face is not the typical handsome guy but he’s alot more appealing than that guy beside him.
  I dont think OC should be compared to this show.
  From the title alone you can tell that its just another teen series trying to achieve the same success that the OC had.

  Wow. I never took the time to notice it. And it does make a whole lot of sense taking the fact that Gossip Girl is made from the creators of The O.C. which I admit is the only reason why I am watching the show. (and seemingly fell in love with the show) I will say that yes Gossip Girl is great but The O.C. will always be in my hurt forever and ever. But I do like your theory because its right on target, the similarity is CRAZY.

  Okay….does anybody realize that the Gossip Girl novels came out waaaaaaay before The O.C was even thought of? And that both of the shows was made by Josh Schwartz, so why are u hating on GG? Thats kinda ignorant don’t you think? I dont watch The O.C., I watch GG but I’m hating on it. I think GG is a good show. It makes me want to check out both of his shows. Theres no reason for all this negativity. I think if you were a true fan of Josh Schwartz you would enjoy anything he makes.

  (a) Josh Schwartz is the idiot who killed Mischa Barton off the show when she was the out-and-out star (and beauty) - ratings fell from 6-7 million to 3-4 between Seasons 3 & 4 - go figure. He also ignored the many thousands of fans who campaigned to Bring Marissa Back. Also killing her was so unnecessary when the whole plot of that episode was based on her going to live on a boat with her Dad. It was sooo stupid. So I guess we blame Josh Schwartz for killing the OC.

  (b) Gossip Girls & OC are very similar in premise, so the implication is that the guy’s not very original. Also the show is not exactly the same as the books, it significantly changes some things - and why the hell are all the characters look-alikes of OC characters? That makes us hardcore OC fans feel aggrieved - why destroy your own show, The OC, only to make a replica with less compelling characters? Go figure. Seriously, go figure.

  The creator of both shows is just trying to recreate the magic that was The O.C. And it’s not working. We will always comepare Gossip Girl to The O.C no matter how much hotter the other cast members on Gossip Girl. It just comes naturally to us humans.

  I understand what your saying, but just because the GG characters look like The O.C. ones doesn’t mean that the story line is the same. And I’m glad that you know about the changes the show made. The books characters are described waaaaay differently. The only characters that stayed the same in the show are Serena, Blair and Chuck. It just bothers me that people say GG is a copy. All Josh did was take the book and convert it into a show. The books came out a whole YEAR before The O.C. ever aired on T.V. It makes me wonder if he read the books and then did The O.C., instead he just changed the location from NYC to LA, so wouldn’t it be fair to say that The O.C. copied off of GG. I have to admit that the show cant compare to how awesome the books are but I still think that it is very entertaining.

  I get what you’re saying, but there are similarities between the characters besides their looks. Seth & Dan are both kind of dorky, Ryan & Nate and strong and quiet, Marissa and Serena beautiful and stylish, Blair and Summer wacky and cute… etc. It is interesting that you thought of Schwartz coming up with the OC off of GG, I never thought about that. It very well may be true! But all in all, I am a fan of both shows (though the OC way more haha.) and yeah - I think they’re a lot similar, but I also think they’re a lot different.

  Yes the similarities between Dan and Seth etc. are freakish, but what about the other characters? I can see Lily and Julie in a way, but Lily seems to not meddle so much in her daughters life, as well, Lily also seems very nice… while Julie,… Also Kaitlin and Jenny, Jenny is a sweet innocent girl white Kaitlin, sparking jays and getting drunk on the beach, not very Jenny-esque. So in ways, yes GG has ripped off the OC but GOssip Girl starts off differently and I think will go somewhere. Of course, that might not happen. Everyone pictured the OC to great successes, and while it did, they killed Marissa and dropped ratings and eventually ended the show.

  I think that Kelly Rutherford (Lilly van der Woodsen) picture should have been compared to Kelly Rowan (Kirsten Cohen) instead of Melinda Clarke (Julie Cooper)

  i dont think they’re really very similar at all… and i agree with the other people that said the OC cast are a lot better looking! Especially Mischa to Blake Lively’s boring face! Rachel bilson is allso so much prettier than that other girl, and, well, they are jjust all so much better looking than the person they are compared to. The Gossip Girl characters faces are a lot plainer.
  i like the OC characters more aswell, but, ehh, i still like Gossip Girl… it’s alright, i guess, but it is nothing copmared to the OC!!!

  I’m all for a healthy debate between the two shows, but come on. After all they’re only hour long television programs. All you GG lovers.. this is a Mischa Barton fansite - therefore the opinions will generally be towards the OC. Just sayin’. I preferred the OC when it was in it’s day (over Gossip Girl by far) , but still watch GG as well. They’re both good shows. I’m out.

  Hello!!! Josh didn’t kill Mischa Barton, she decided to live the show because she just didn’t want to be there anymore, and guess what? The end the whole show was amazing, besides Rachel Bilson became more popular and certainly, many people preferred her over Mischa. Yes The OC is unforgettable but Gossip girl is an interesting story, I love the city, the looks (style, etc) and why not giving a chance for this show.

  Copy the OC much? So this show is alright. Theres a decent plot and alot of drama. But compared to the OC? This show has nothing. The OC had an amazing plot line and awesome characters, if you saw it once you would be hooked to it.

  But you can’t blame Josh Schwartz, without him there would never have been an OC.

  And also, with the OC off the air, Gossip Girl is very sucsessful.

  Overall? The OC wins, BIGTIME :)

  The O.C. is an amazing show it drew you in and you were hooked after the first episode. The cast of the O.C. was much more interesting to watch and the reason everyone is so upset with its ending is because it was the kind of show that drew you in. I read the Gossip Girl Books and I am aware that it is not a complete copy of the O.C. but it is very similar. The O.C. cannot be beat! It was the best. If it were still on and on at the same time as GG I would pick the O.C. in a heartbeat!!! The characters were phenomenal! Everyone who is sticking up for the O.C. ALL THE POWER TO YAH!

  Mrs. Van der Woodson should be compared to kirsten instead of julie…. Love them both, but the OC def wins… Yes, GG is based on a series, but very very loosely… THe only thing thats alike are the characters names and certain traits of their personalities. The books are wayyy better.

  The OC is so 2005…It’s all about Gossip Girl. Gossip Girl has been around for ages. In books actually before the OC was around. And just so you know, Gossip Girl has the same producers from The OC.

  I love love loveee the oc!!!! gossip girl is awesome too, but its kind of confusing..

  blair (forgot her real name) and rachel bilson look so alike! i love both their looks, with blair and her dangerous look, and rachel with her friend look. im not gonna compare them tho! mischa and blake don’t look that much like each other except for the hair, but they’re both really realy pretty. awesome awesome. except the picture of blake is kinda weird. i could barely recognize her, but she actually really pretty.

  -mischa barton is prettier than blake. (sorry, but it was a close comparison. blake still rocks!)
  -rachel bilson looks prettier than leighton (also a reallly close comparison!)
  - seth is soo much cuter than dan…(mostly cuz i think dan is weird looking.)
  -ryan and nate are probably a tie. both are soo cute only with their hair long and sloppy. they look weird with it spiked up (or gel in nate’s case)
  -i like kaitlyn better by looks, but jenny has a much nicer personailty!
  -luke looks better than chuck, but only cuz chuck is sooo ugly sry. luke doesnt loook that greatt though.
  -dan’s dad looks better than sandy. but person-wise, i like sandy better cuz he’s smart and really nice.
  -not sure about julie and mrs.vanderwoodson. i dont like neither that much. but julie wins both personality and looks because mrs.vanderwoodson looks too….mature.

  thats my opinion! even though they are, it doesnt mean they’re true. so dont be offended plz by them. dont get me wrong, GG’s characters look amazing (haha i wish i looked as good as the girls) but it was a close comparison. dont judge plz! kk

  Whoever said it was Josh’s fault the oc started losing rates because he killed off Marissa. The actress playing Marissa wanted out of the OC, she wanted to act in movies. So, the only way to make it so Marissa couldn’t return, was to kill her off! If she did go away with her dad like it was said, the viewers would expect her to come back for visits. And Ryan wouldn’t be able to get over Marissa and get with Taylor. I think Taylor and Ryan were a better couple anyway.

  Hi everyone, i just want to say that i love both shows and they are very different, in first place the girls on the oc never had a conflict because of being with the same guy, second, there’s no nerd that desperatelt needs help like it happened in the oc at the beginning. Third the parents of some of the guys on the OC were more concerned about their kids than in GG i don’t understand why some of you are so obsessed by saying that gg is a copy of the oc, when most of the people here have said like a thousand times that gg is based on books.

  The shows are similar in foundation. But so is the basis of pretty much every successful teen or otherwise soap out there. Add OTH into the mix and you could easily put Brooke into the Blair and Summer category as you could add Peyton to the Marissa and Serena one. Then you could compare Lucas, Seth and Dan as being the more quiet types with Nathan, Nate and Ryan in some other sort of category. Of course none of them are exactly similar and I can see more similarities between the OC and GG cast but it hardly matters when the plot lines are totally different, the characterisations change in completely different directions and the show has hardly even finished its first season. Give it a chance before you decide it’s not as fantastic as the OC. Not that there’s any real need to compare both shows to begin when your lucky enough to have something as good as gossip girl to enjoy now that the magic that was the OC is no more.

  And the whole topic of which cast is better looking. Shallow much?

It maybe look pretty superficial but the characters have conflicts and the clothing, music, etc creates a really nice story!!! Just accept both are amazing

  I love the OC but I way prefer Gossip Girl. ITS SO ADDICTING!!! Blair is way better then Summer and Jenny is way better then Kaitlin but I prefer Marissa more then Serena.

  Okay anyways, so what if the characters look the same. He just picked people that the audience would feel to be ‘attractive’. I personally love GG and i also did like the OC. but err.. yes the oc did get a little bitter at the end. quite bitter. i was kinda happy that marissa died because she just killed everything. (okay, stalk me and kill me) plus, she asked the director for her to leave the show if you didn’t read up on it yourself. saying how blaire looks like every other girl, so does summer. I should know. I have a bunch of cousins that look like her. It’s called the “spanish or white people + asian” love. I won’t lie, I love summer and she is just gorgeous. Don’t hate on the show just cause you miss the oc. GG is great, and it follows the book. Maybe not completely, by hey.. all great books turn out to be different when they’re movies.

  the oc and gossip girl are very great shows, but i preffure the oc. besides i read GG about 9 books, its very different from the show, and most of the story line from GG is the same as the oc, like how hard dan wants to tell that he love serena .i like the GG books better than the show, in the oc i was shocked that marissa died. i was like “what the f**k!”. oc will always be my fav show.   OC vs. Gossip Girl

  I honestly think they have no similarities, except that Josh Schwarz is the producer of both successful series. Gossip Girl doesn’t even compare to the books (they change the storyboard, which they have to, otherwise the series would tend to be too short), but comparing the shows is such a discourtesy towards the O.C. The O.C was the first teen series, which was original, it had a lot of drama displayed by Marissa and Ryan, Seth and summer where the humors side of the show. The show was appropriate for any age; it was a family tradition to watch the O.C on Thursday nights, the underground music made the show even more exciting. Of course everyone has there own opinion but please how can even compare MISCHA BARTON WITH BLAKE LIVELY. Mischa Barton is such a graceful person, her hair her thin body are so natural, that ordinary person like Blake lively doesn’t level up to her standards. I am not accusing Blake lively for being ugly, her hair is wildly pretty, but when she smiles, you can justify if she still has eyes, her nose increased double the size and her mouth looks so deranged. Mishap Barton and all the other characters created a memorable story that will still be watched by teens 100 years from now, sort of like the golden girls. It was the first show that brought fashion, music, humor, original quotes, drama… that made everyone happy!

  I love Gossip Girl! Hate me if u want… but I think the shows are quite different actually. The OC is much more drama and alot more weird things going on, whilst GG is more fun and wit. And even though the characters in GG have some sort of resemlance with those on the OC, they are still very different. E.g. Lily van der Woodsen is a much more sympathetic person than Julie Cooper could ever be, I don’t think those two should be compared at all. Also I have to disagree with most ppl here when they say the OC cast is more beatuiful than that of GG… It’s the other way around, really! Except when it comes to Seth Cohen and Dan Humphrey, then Seth looks much better. As well as Blair and Summer look pretty much the same to me. Well… I love both shows, I just don’t think they should be compared and one couldn’t really be “better” than the other since they’re so different. All I had to say…

  ok here’s my view. i’m thiking that josh swartz maybe read gossip girl before creating the oc and liked the idea so decided to create a show slightly based it. cos think about it, there’s marissa (serena) the tall blonde who’s perfect and popular but is troubled and distressed, then summer (blair) the cute little brunette who is in with the popular crowd at school and then the guys are slightly the same aswell. to top it all off both stories are based on these kids who are rich and have everything, but their lives aren’t perfect and things can always go wrong.

  that aside, the oc is one of the best shows i’ve ever watched and although mischa’s acting annoyed me at times i would rather not have her character replaced with any other actress as she’s got this pure beauty about her with an innocent yet needy look. and no one can beat seth and ryan’s little scenes together… they seriously have the best chemistry EVER, so funny. i love the oc cast i don’t think you can get much better, everything about it was perfect IMO (well up intil season 3/4).

  but i’m still going to give gossip girl a chance, afterall i did read the books :)

  i think that GG and The oc is a great show! But the story line is almost the same, and the characthers r look alike, i like the oc much better than gossip girl. i like to read GG books rather than watching it. in the book there is alot of drama, and serena is very popular girl in new york, but at the show i think blair is more popular than her. but i love the characther MARISSA COOPER, mischa is the best.
  and the oc has a original story to it and it is the one of the best show yet. and god NATE is so gay! i like seth better.
  BUT I LIKE 2 OF THIS SHOWS! and the oc will be my favorite all time show!

  GOD why everyone is making such a deal out of it!
  both of the shows r great! i was conffused why GG will be aired on tv in may 2008, cause of the writers strike? god they only air 14 episodes and than what, gone?
  love both shows and cast!

  GoSsiP girL iS WAY Betta than the oc the oc was ok but then got borin.
  And the cast of gossip girl r much hotter than the oc. Chuck & Nate r gawjuz n Dan is cute in a nerdy way.
  So come ova peeps stop h8in jst coz Gossip Girl is betta!! OC was sooo 2005 Gossip Girl is sooooo now!!!!!!

  hmmm, they are very similar, but Gossip Girl is much more climbing up the social ladder, in your face, money competion to the max sort of show as compared to The OC which actually has much more of a flowing plot, and realistic like.

  Stop arguing people! actually i support both OC n GG~ Though some of the actor may have resemblance, but the nature of the show is totally different, so dun compare.

  okay.
  blake lively > mischa barton.
  chace crawford > ben mckenzie. no doubt.
  but rachel bilson > leighton meester.
  i can see slight similarities in those three, plus adam brody and penn badgely, but that’s about it.

  the creator for the show was the same.
  and yeah, i think a lot of people will always prefer the OC just because it was first.
  personally, i liked the OC but i really like GG better.

  first:gg is not a copy of oc, the 2 of them are alike. thet have the same topic!! what where you specting!! of course theres gonna be beautiful girls in the 2 of them and not becouse 2 people have the same hair color are the same(serena-marissa,summer-blair, dan-cohen), the caracters are different, they just have details that match. the oc was amasing OK!! but its over , and how can you be a fan of marissa if she ended the show becouse she wanted to do other things(take drogs) shes preety but come on is a caracter!! the oc was fun but on the first 12 episodes itwas more boring, it took me twoseasons to love it, it was really cool but its over.. gg is a new show, its totally different, theres a narrator and its more real, and is so fun couse is in new york, anyway gg is good and i only seenlike 8 episodes, the oc was great and i see all the season(the last one was boooring)but i think that gossip girl is better ,each episode its new and fresh and they dress so good theres only one thing, gosip girl is much more girl tipe and the oc my brother saw it

  Hi everyone, I have to say that both shows rock but the last chapters of gossip girl have let me speechless and wanting more!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The oc included a lot of drama about the kids & also about the parents of everybody, gossip girl too but focuses more on the kids. Gossip girl has quite a cool story and Blair has taken the main character because her story between Chuck and Nate is more interesting than Serena’s love triangles (her, Dan & Vanessa or her, Blair & Nate); if I were Blair i wouldn’t even know who would i choose????? because Nate is adorable and they are tight, but Chuck seem to be really in to her. I hope there will be more and more seasons :)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  you’re just doodling, the cast resembles but the whole drame is just different! both shows rocked and in different ways!!! but deep inside you know gossip girl will more huge the the oc!!!!! both of them are great!!!!

  The OC was only good at it’s first season. I think the GG cast is hot though. ^^
  I think Meester plays her role much better than Bilson though.
  The similarities are… woah. Havn’t even noticed until I saw them side to side like that.

  WHOA! The similarity of both the casts and shows are pretty remarkable (apart from the mums!). But the creaters probably did that on purpose.
  They also wanted that Mischa girl in it too!!
  But I’m glad she not in it! Gossip girl is a better show. better made and storyline. The OC was made first but for that being first was good but Gossip girl is better ’cause they might of thought of that for the oc but it wouldn’t work and that also might be why they did finish the OC up. :)
  In the end GOSSIP GIRL rocks and OC sucks! :D

  the OC is 1ooo… times better than Gossip Girl, this is just a copy, and it’s based on books and all that but the characters are like the same; i really LOVE♥ the OC; i think it’s the better serie ever; gotta love it♥!

  I think both of the shows are great. However, I think GG has a more mature setting. Sure, both shows can be unrealistic, but The O.C. seems much more juvenile and the actors all act the same. Whereas GG’s storyline is more easily related to: New York teens with family issues, betrayal, sibling rivalry, etc.
  I also believe the casts from both shows are equally good-looking.

  hey there i agree with the comparison and everything and i have 2 say that i like both tv shows fosho but… i found so many similarities within the 2 shows, example.. catellion (or whatever u write it) a fight… oc fans know this happened in the oc too… crazy partying.. G.G..the school pool breaking in party, one guy almost die and problems… the oc.. marissas’s house and the little bit.. od and almost drowned in her pool, the fact that in GG rufus and lily dated each other and like that.. the oc jimmy and kirsten (which is really hot), i think dan’s character is so alike to seth but… i think is impossible to get the same as they got in the oc.. adam is awesome… what else?? i found so many but i think i forgot…. my point is that it doesn’t matter if it’s alike or not… what is good is that this new show has the oc roots and so far is a great show, i am really looking forward 2 the second season and to see what it can bring 2 us viewers, so… we shouldn’t just judge the oc or GG just because we feel its a copy or not or just because we think the oc was created based on Cecily von Ziegesar’s books…. so let’s appreciate both and hope the best for GG which may or not replace a little bit our The oc necessity… peace out and have fun everyone!!!!! regards from a mexican guy in tokyo!!!!!!
