Is Marissa Cooper (Mischa Barton’s OC character) really dead?
Fans were outraged this week that during the season finale of the OC (Episode 325) Marissa Cooper (Played by Mischa Barton) seemed to die in a car accident. Some fans are so upset they started a petition urging the producers and writers of the Fox TV show to have Marissa be in a coma, not be dead and perhaps come back next season.
If you don’t want Mischa leaving the OC sign the petition.

I read on a MSN News site that in a interview Mischa Barton said she wanted to leave the show to pursue a movie career.And she also revealed on a talk show or something that her character died in the finale before the episode was aired and pissed off a lot of fans.

I love Mischa BArton and I LOVE THE OC even more now imagine how i felt? it was really really sad. Like I watch my box sets every once in a while and seeing those flash backs from tj and the moment when ryan was in the car with sandy and he sees marissa in the light its so sad. how can i ever watch those episodes ever again knowing that marissa ends up dying. I would feel so much better if she just left to see her father this ending was way too deep common they are just kids why do they have to have such horrible lives? especially marissa everything was ending on goodterms with everyone then volchok ends up killing her? i mean johnny died and i freaked now marissa? Lets face it. Josh Swartz is not an idiot. To kill of Marissa Cooper, one of the core four of the program is an idiotic thing to do. Its like, rating suicide. This show isnt going to survive without her. Its always been about 4 people, summer, seth, ryan and marissa. The Ryan & Marissa love story, it kept us interested. Without that, this show isnt going to work. Kaitlin Cooper could never fill the hole that Mischa Barton will leave.
Which is why I dont think its true. Think about it for a minute, its rating suicide, why would Josh do that? It doesnt make sense & it doesnt make sense that Mischa wanted to leave the show. Leaving isnt going to do anything good for her career thats for certain, she had a good thing going for her, I doubt she would want to leave.
Whatever happens, whether she comes back or not, this show isnt going to succeed if she doesnt.

Yup thats right he proposed to her adn in teh script marissa says Oh my god but i think she says yes becuz ryan calles summer and tell her to bring seth and her to teh hospital he has news and u also learn that some one has cancer. What the hell has happened to the oc. They have ruined everything. Because of Marissa’s death, the oc sucks. I will watch a few episodes of the oc season 4 to see if she’s alive but if she’s not i’m saying bye bye bye to this soon to be crappy show. I thought the writers and the producers or whatever had brains but to kill off Marissa was a huge mistake, they still have time to bring her back(SIX WHOLE MONTHS!!!). I really hope they make the right desicion. I was a really big oc fan but now i might hate it.
PS. I hate kaitlin(i don’t really know how to spell her name but i don’t care!) so it would also be really stupid to base the show around her. The ratings are just going to go dooooooooown!!!

There is hope people. Something I noticed, just look at the song they play as she dies. Do you remember that song being played before? Hallelujah by Jeff Buckley. Yes they did play it before, in an episode not so dis-similar. It was the final episode of season one, when Seth left for Portland and Ryan left with Teresa. We thought it was over, and they were gone forever, but were they? No they were not, they returned next season to continue the program just where it left off after season one.
Is this a coincidence that the same song has been played again, in a situation not so different. I think not, they could of chose any song but they didnt, they chose Hallelujah.
We’ll see anyway, but theres a lot of things that dont quite make sense with this story line ;)

Dude im playing the episode right now on my computer in the final scene of “The Ties That Bind” (I.E the last episode of Season 1), and they play Hallelujah. Where Marissa is standing and drinking the vodka looking off the balcany and Seth is sailing away to the ocean, and kirsten is crying with Sandy, and Ryan is driving away with Terisa. Oh god its such a bloody ace moment!
Though there is a difference. Its the same song in both episodes (end of season 1&3), however at the end of Season 1 its Jeff Buckleys version and then at the end of Season 3 its Imogen Heap’s version. Same words but different voice.
In the TJ Episode when she OD’d they played Into Dust which is also a great song.

THe person interviewing her asked “Do you think you will come back in a dream scene?” Mischa says “Oh god i hope not taht would be cheesey.” So why would she say all the stuff she obvisiouly dies. I think they played “I’m amazed” when they were dancing, but then “Hallelujaha” right at the end, when Seth is sailing away.
Also I’m not sure but I think I remember something about Marissa saying that the song “Hallelujaha” reminded her of Ryan when they heard it (earlier in season 1) - although it might have been another song, I’m not 100% on that.

Ok, Season 3 finale was the third time they played the song “hallelujah” once was the time where the model home was burned down, the other one was in s1 finale, AFTER they played the song by Jem, and that one. I just wanna say, I think it was Nicole Ritchies influence that Mischa is gettin out. Also, she should know that she will ruin her career if she leaves, due to the fact that 97% or more of her fans are from the OC, and will stop watchin if she leaves. And if Marissa dies, they will get bad reviews, which by then they will have to end the show, and we would be left only with a cheesy spin-off of Summer and Seth (and not even in the right side of USA…) which will end by the time Adam Brody and Rachel Bilson breakup (that is if they do, im not implyin nothin). I also heard that Mischa is leaving because of a pole where Rachel Bilson was voted as the hottest of them both, but she should know that even that some old dudes that have nothin else to do except votin who is the hottest one in a teens show, I thonk that I speak for all of Mischa’s fans when I say that she’s a better actress than Rachel, and that is prooven cause she always gets the hard scenes. why she is NOT dead:
1.this could be paid to say that stuff

3. she signed for 5 or 6 seasons and she admitted it
4.they have june and july to decide until they start shooting

I think she will stay because It is a based on The fab “four” not the fab three even though adam rachel and ben and evryone else are good on the show it wont be the same without Mischa Barton. The ratings will go way down if she really dies. Less people will watch the show.

i think if she wanted to leave the show fine they killed her off i havent been wathcing the oc since 2nd season cuz it was boring me then i heard she got killed off she is one of the main characters but i never liked her anyway her and ryan i didnt feel it she was always like messed up in the 2 nd and 1st season drinking acting slutish and the whole bad boy and bad girl didnt sem good i like it alot when lindsay was with ryan it was better but if marissa is dead then ryan is going to end up with theresa the woman ryan use to date and thought he had a baby with her

Well! I have no idea why did they killed her in the show if they relly did it, but i hope they have a really good reason to do that cause all the OC fans love Marissa, not just because of her beauty ang great acting but also because her caracter is as important as all the other caracters. There are people saying that it was time for her to leave the show, and I can say HELL no i wasn`t time for her to leave the show… As well as Ryan her caracter had a sheet all massed up life, and thats what makes her and her relationship with ryan unique…
I have seen lots of movies that directors are changing that old dream of perfect love and showing drastic sad endings and it may be what happend in the OC… I don`t wanna believe that cause I love Misha and her caracter, but that`s the reality nowadays. Life as it is….

I was absolutely gutted when i read the season 3 finale on the fox website and learnt that Marissa dies, i read in a magasine last month that Mischa Barton had been annoying the shows producers, not turning up on set ontime etc, but to kill her off seems really random. From the very start of the OC it was made clear that Marissa and Ryan were meant to be together, so no matter who the characters were with (luke, theresa, lydnsey)the fans always held out the hope that Ryan and Marissa would eventually get together, this was what kept the show together. All the other major characters are great, dont get me wrong, but i cant see how the show is going to work now.

OMG ppl kay for the ppl who added me when i said i had the season 4 script eps.1 will in that script shes alive and ryan proposes to her, will aftre researching i lost faith in the script i thought it was fake then i got another season 4 eps. 1 script and in that one she dies and ryan blames it all on him. But if there is 2 scripts going around, then i think ppl are makin them up. But yah the 2 scripts i have are “The Awakening” (marissa is alive) and “The Never Forgotten”(marissa is dead) I dont know which to believe so i printed them out and showed them to my friends and ppl at my school and we all think its all fake and that josh wont kill off mairssa since she is the main character.

okay so I was bored online and looking at diff sites about the oc. Some say she is gone for good. Marissa says she is in an interview. Josh says she is gone in an interview too. Ask ausiello ,the tv guide guy, says she is not coming back for sure! Then one oc site said …”Season 3 of The OC is in the books and what a season it was. Fox gave us a cliffhanger at the end of the season finale with the car crash. Do you think Marissa is dead or will she live by some miracle? You will have to tune in to the Season 4 premeire sometime in the fall. We will be here all Summer long with updates on Season 4 so keep checking back…Well if she is dead for sure why would they say will she live by some miracle…What do you guys think! I know it is just a show, but Marissa cannot die. I will hate the oc if she does!

“Lets face it. Josh Swartz is not an idiot. To kill of Marissa Cooper, one of the core four of the program is an idiotic thing to do. Its like, rating suicide. This show isnt going to survive without her. Its always been about 4 people, summer, seth, ryan and marissa. The Ryan & Marissa love story, it kept us interested. Without that, this show isnt going to work. Kaitlin Cooper could never fill the hole that Mischa Barton will leave.
Which is why I dont think its true. Think about it for a minute, its rating suicide, why would Josh do that? It doesnt make sense & it doesnt make sense that Mischa wanted to leave the show. Leaving isnt going to do anything good for her career thats for certain, she had a good thing going for her, I doubt she would want to leave.

Oh I also wanted to say I looked at wikipedia.com and if you search oc…It talks about how Mischa is not on the show anynmore. It shows all the characters from the past season, and MIscha is not listed as a main character, she is under former regulars with luke or Chris Carmack, Caleb Kirsten’s dad and Tate donovan Marissa’s dad dad. SO that made me think that she is not going to come back. I am sad…she cannot leave our show ppl!

I have the whole season 1-3 dvd and am so relieved that Marisa got killed off cus she so deserves it. She’s demented and she really was just there as an annoyance along with Ryan who always try to play Batman with him sticking his nose in everyone’s business trying to rescue them when they dont need rescuing — I hope they kill him off next season as well and concentrate on Summer and Seth. That’s the thing.. on the offial website at the end of the 25th episode in the episode guide it says:” The car explodes and Ryan lays Marissa down on the pavement and rouses her. He tells her he’s going to get help, but she begs him to stay. And then she dies. “I wish it’s not like that.. but if the official website says so.. I’m afraid It’s the truth!

Well, if they do keep her around, she prolly will be in the 4th season in a comatose, which I would say, would be her best performance in her entire career.
And Tevin, at least Summer doesn’t kill people. Think about it, Marisa tried to kill Ryan’s brother but couldn’t, so she had to get her little sister’s help to kill another person (Johnny - surfer dude), so it took 2 Coopers to kill him… but, let’s not forget it only takes 1 Marisa to kill the show. :)

cmon people, the storyline of the o.c. was not will not and is not centered around marissa, she was only 1/4 of the o.c., the bad 1/4 at that. really whenever they show her on the show, people usually would just rather watch a commercial. look back at all her antics, they were stupid, abnormal, psychotic, dumb, and did i mention stupid? i mean i admit ryan is the same but i guess he has good intentions.

marissa and ryan were skank and thug magnets. they always end up doing stupid things like get into fights and shooting someone. and then marissa acts all like shes the victim. i think marissa has bipolar disorder cus one minute shes happy and then another minute shes sad or angry.
i read on the official site that mischa is taking a year off to take acting lessons in england. i think thats good for her cus she needs it, i saw her in a movie where she was suppose to be able to talk to dolphins and man she was pathetic.
i like seth i think hes cute and definitely the main star of the show and i think ryan should just go back to chino cus he belongs there and cant fit in cus he just brings trouble to sandy and kirsten and seth. but i also think seth is gay and is secretly in love with ryan hahaha!

Some of us anti-Mischa/Marissa are also going to start a campaign to keep Mischa Barton off of The O.C. because plainly as any normal minded human being can attest that she sucks as Marissa and as an actor.
We are open to the idea of having Marissa’s character brought back to life, if and only if another actress takes Mischa Barton’s place, and if and only if, she has a limited role. The O.C. is not about a sick, pathetic, demented young woman who wrecks hers, her mothers, her friends, her boyfriends, her surrounding’s lives.
So please stay tuned and we will have our own campaign to keep Mischa Barton OUT of The O.C. or be REPLACED!

As much as it sucks, I think that they really killed her off. All the websites that I have found say that she dies, even the fox website says she does. If you go to the episode guide for season 4, the very end the recap says “The car explodes and Ryan lays Marissa down on the pavement and rouses her. He tells her he’s going to get help, but she begs him to stay. And then she dies.” I don’t think they would have flat out said that she dies if she wasn’t really dead.
Anyway, I don’t think it was the brightest thing for them to do because the whole show has always been based around the 4 of them. I think that if they wanted to kill her off, then they should have just ended the show all together because all they have done now is have 3 good seasons, piss off all the die hard OC fans and KILL their ratings for season 4. People may watch the first couple of episodes just to see if she’s “really dead or not” but after that I have a feeling that the ratings will quickly dwindle.
But … that is just my thoughts on the finale.

I know its hard to believe but it is all in good faith. The producers arent going to hurt their show on purpose, it was for the best for the show and for ratings.
A lot of people complained about how the writers just basically wrote her character out of the show because of O.C. fans complaining how annoying Mischa Barton was and so the writers just built her character up to a point of suicide and killed her off because they were probably as annoyed with Mischa as others were.
Please you people just need to support The O.C. on its 4th season and you will see, you will forget about Marissa aka Mischa and fall in love with the show once again even if they bring a new character in with better acting skills, which shouldnt be hard.

Things didn’t look to good for oc fans when rumors started that Mischa Barton was leaving the oc. She said “I’m going back to film” says Mischa “It could go against me to be in a long running show”. She’s landed roles in 3 upcomming movies, but she won’t be putting Marissa to rest anytime soon. Everyone on the show has a six-year contract, according to a Fox rep. Whew!

I agree with Kelly. That is the reason why we’re here to slap the stupid out of people. And really? Even if all the Mischa Barton fans stop watching the show (all 23 of you), it wouldn’t make a difference because you are so few and there are more O.C. fans that will stick around in the 4th season and watch the show and be glad that Marissa was taken OUT of the O.C.

meicha wanted to leave. But they should just replace her withsome1 else, even no it would be extremely hard to get usto having a new marissa, its better then none. they just have to find someone who looks alittle like her who is just as god as mechia.

I watched a interview with mischa barton on and she said that she wanted out of the oc to explore new things and do movies..also the film shot different endings one with ryan dieing..summmer…and seth so it couldnt get out the reall finale but mischa told on a live interview and josh shawrtz the creater said he was dissapointed she told because she wanted to leave. as he was going to write a different ending

Well, Kelly and Oshen probably are idiots but they do make a good point people. the O.C. is only a TV show, its not real, Tyler, Sammysu, and Chantal, cmon, those guys are just trying to get you guys mad and it seems to be working.
Do you really need to get all mad just because a few people put down your goddess, even though it’s a little creepy? Mischa does need a few acting lessons but she’s not the worst actress Oshen. Yes, she does annoy a lot of people out there but there’s people who like her too, just that they need reality checks.
I like the O.C. with and without Mischa Barton, if theyre going to take her out, they need to put the character Marissa back in but with a better actress.
Calm down people with your fighting, it’s just a T.V. show!
